Information for PERCUSSION PIRATE PISTOL, ITALY 18TH. C.:

at the time of its conception, the flintlock revolutionized the world of weapons, but gradually, even it became obsolete, giving rise to newer ideas, like the firing mechanism that is featured in this replica Brass 19th Century Percussion Cap Pistol. Percussion cap technology was first invented in 1807 in Scotland, when Rev. Alexander John Forsyth noticed a small issue with this flintlock shotgun. When the flint ignited the powder in the pan, the puff of smoke would alert the birds he was hunting and give them ample warning to fly away, before the shot could reach them. Thus, the percussion cap that would eventually overtake the world of firearms was born of one mans hunting necessity. This impressive pistol recreates an Italian design that would have been popular with ranking sailors, pirates, and noblemen of all statures. The pistol is crafted from a complete wood stock, as well as a brass finished metal plated butt cap and trigger guard. The barrel also features a gleaming brass finish, as well as limited decoration to really give the pistol a fantastic look. The percussion cap lock is fully functional, in that you can work the hammer and pull the trigger to release the hammer. The pistol also features a relatively realistic size and weight, which makes it a great choice when you are looking for a truly realistic piece. Please note that this is a replica pistol, and having been designed as a replica pistol, it cannot be converted into a working percussion cap firearm. On a stand, this little pistol would make for a great display to enjoy over and over again as a part of your collection, and it goes without saying that this Brass 19th Century Percussion Cap Pistol also makes for a great theatrical prop or costume weapon, too.
